The 2017 Dan Gurney Cup

We will again be celebrating Dan Gurney’s driving career in October. The Riverside track was sometimes called “The House that Gurney built”- operating from 1957 to 1988. Today it is a shopping mall and a housing development, but it lives on in Gary and Johnna Knabe’s basement.

So along with the club concept of qualifying on one, two or all three weekends for the final DTM Shoot Out – the Gurney Cup will score this way. Your best two finishes will be scored. You can choose to race in one, two or three of the DTM qualifying weekends – but only your best two races will count. The third and final points race will be Vintage NASCAR on the original Riverside NASCAR course during the DTM Shoot Out evening.

I’ve tried to pick cars we have raced in the past and don’t want anyone to have to buy new cars. Please message me if you have a car you are not sure about. I want to include everyone and share photos with Dan Gurney from our races.

Again Dan Gurney’s All American Racers will be providing awards.

September 30 – Long course with NC-1 Classics – Dan got his first pro win at Riverside with a 1957 Corvette. He also raced Ferrari, Maserati, Ol’Yaller and Cobra. / Long course with Monogram Lola T-70s (stock wheels) – Dan gave Ford it’s only Can-Am win in 1966 with his Lola T-70.

October 7 – Long course with Mid Era F-1 1966-1970 (past Scaley series Eagle/Lotus49 motor car rules- you can also race a McLaren M7 or Brabham BT26) Dan won Spa in 1967 with his classic Eagle. / Long Course with Monogram McLaren M6 (past series rules) – Dan raced the McLeagle

October 14 –Long Course with Scaley- Ford GT40 Mkl/Mkll, Ferrari 330P4 and Chaparral 2F cars (Supertires OK ) – Dan won the 1967 Le Mans with the Ford MkIV. Long Course with 1965-1970 Fly Le Mans Classic – ANY Ferrari 250LM or 512/Ford GT40 MkI or MkII/ Lola T-70 coupe/Porsche 906, 917, 908, 908/2 or 908/3 but no Can-Am or Interseries Spyders.

October 21 – original NASCAR course with Carrera Classic NASCAR (past series rules) – Dan raced a Ford Torino and Plymouth Superbird or Monogram NASCAR (stock wheels) Dan won Riverside in 1963, 4, 5 and 6 with Monogram Fords.
